Our BA(Hons) Fashion courses respond to contemporary practice within the fashion industry and caters for those students who wish to pursue a career within the wider scope of fashion. offering a placement and the freedom to explore your creativity of self-expression balanced with the need to understand commercial design and manufacturing processes, and an awareness of key critical issues affecting the industry.

TEXTILES + SURFACE DESIGN
Our BA (Hons) Textiles + Surface Design course will teach you how to use your creative flair to design and produce for a range of fashion and textile outcomes. What works wonders for our fashion and textile students is the fact that Bolton as a town has a rich heritage within the textile manufacturing and innovation trade, giving you direct exposure to the best in the profession.
This multi-disciplinary degree explores surface design for fashion, interiors and contemporary craft and design products. Our students have an impressive history of success in national and international competitions, and our industry-experienced, dedicated team will work to nurture your skills in traditional practices and innovative digital processes, ready for a career in professional design.

Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair - Changing Spaces
Victoria Baths, Hathersage Road, Manchester M13 0FE
Changing Spaces is an exhibition of graduate work in the original Edwardian changing cubicles which flank the pool areas in our stunning - and quirky - new venue of Victoria Baths.
Changing Spaces will feature 30 graduates hailing from design, craft and textile courses across the UK. Some of their work will be for sale or to commission and, for many, Changing Spaces offers them the chance to showcase their work in public for the first time and chat to GNCCF visitors about their ideas and practice. Featuring Laura May Pyott, Vahekeny Rodrigues and Hollow Crafts (Sophie Holloway).
Our stand will also feature the work of graduates Denise Gouveia, Emese Barna, Emma Christie and Alumni Murron Fraser.

Murron Fraser is an artist and printed textile surface designer / teacher based in Manchester in the North west of England. Explore her inspiration from a variety of places, including nature, translating its forms and natural beauty into original artwork, applied textiles, embroidery and surface print design.

Repeat | Repeat | Repeat with Faye Power
This session will introduce you to pattern construction and repeat methods using the quartering process. You will create a full repeat pattern by hand suitable for fashion and interiors using hand drawn and digital techniques. You will have the opportunity to send your digital patterns to us for printing on fabric and paper. The day will consist of hand applied repeat and fabric printing processes with Faye Power.

Exploring the competition themes through hand applied screen-printing processes, using pigments, aqua span, foil and flock. You will have the opportunity to create a range of sample fabrics using a combination of techniques.

Digital Surface Pattern for Lighting Design with Tom Sutton and Donna Claypool
During this full day of workshops you will have an opportunity to work across two different areas, using the broad competition themes to create surface patterns for digital printing and inventive paper construction towards lighting design.

Material Matters with Faye Power and Rachel Dawson.
Colour, pattern and material play are integral to our creative practice. In this workshop you will be encouraged to work intuitively, responding to the materiality of the cloth to produce your own mixed media sample using pre-loved and unused household textiles and objects. During the session we will explore patchwork and quilting as methods to repurpose waste materials, and discuss the social, historical and political approaches to quilting and piecing, introducing you to several key historical and contemporary makers. We will also share ongoing work from our Material Matters project and invite you to be a part of this collaborative body of work.

Pattern For Fashion with Donna Claypool
